Our purpose
The Hydronic Authority exists to be a clear, accurate, and independent reference on hydronic (water-based) heating — radiant floor heat, boilers, air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps, snowmelt systems, and solar thermal. Hydronic heating is a relatively specialized corner of home comfort technology, and good plain-language information about it is harder to find than it should be. We built this site to fill that gap: real technical depth, written for homeowners, builders, and anyone researching how these systems actually work, without a sales pitch attached to every page.
Who maintains this site
The Hydronic Authority is maintained by hydronic heating professionals with hands-on experience designing, installing, and troubleshooting these systems. Content is written and reviewed by people who work with this equipment directly, and it's updated as products, codes, and best practices evolve.
Our approach
We aim to explain concepts the way we'd explain them to a friend who asked a good question — accurately, without unnecessary jargon, and without inflating claims about any one technology. Where costs are discussed, we use realistic ranges rather than false-precision numbers, because hydronic systems are engineered per building and any single number without context is misleading. Where a topic has real trade-offs — heat pump vs. boiler, radiant vs. forced air — we try to lay out both sides honestly rather than pushing a single answer.
